If you hang around on nerdy automotive forums, as all of us enthusiasts tend to do, you’ll eventually end up in a discussion where people discuss the merits of four-, five-, and six-speed manual transmissions. And yes, some people still defend the old-school four-speed box with its granny gear and three normal ratios. Naturally, the five-speed still makes an appearance because many of us grew up with that being the standard.
