We’re on board with hybrids and electric vehicles, we like turbocharged straight-fours, and there may be an argument to be made that V6 and V8 engines are becoming less relevant. Engineers have more options than ever when it comes to efficient performance, and two or four extra cylinders may feel like wasted space under the hood. But the smooth power and the pleasing notes of a naturally aspirated six or eight-cylinder powerplant are why a lot of us became gearheads in the first place, so it’s always worth a moment of commemorative silence when a car that gets its power the old-fashioned way is pulled from the market.
