As an alternative to the standard baked potato, try this Hasselback Potato with a twist. It will look really impressive if you are making this for friends. My dinosaur-loving nephew loves it as he says it looks like something-saurus.
You can make it plain and unadorned or you can pile on any filling or topping that you fancy. It is infinitely versatile and very easy. Just leave it to bake in the oven and go off and do something else. Make a few at a time and have them later.
How to make Hasselback potatoes
First, you need to prepare the potatoes, wash and dry them and cut slices like this. Use a wooden spoon or another kitchen implement to make sure that you don’t cut all the way through. Preheat the oven to 210 °C or Gas Mark 7.

Smother the cut slices with butter and seasoning if you like.

Bake it at 210 °C for an hour. Check on it as different oven cook at different rates. If you are using an air fryer, you need to bake it for just 45 minutes and you get a much crispier result.
Once the potato has achieved its ideal golden brown colour, sprinkle the grated cheese liberally over the top. And bake for another 10 minutes until the cheese melts. In an airfryer, try 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, fry some bacon in a pan or use the air fryer. Fry for a few minutes until brown and crispy, then crumble. Set aside.
When the cheese has melted, sprinkle the bacon bits and if you like some garnish, some spring onions.

You can pimp this up with other flavours like a dash of Worcestershire sauce, chilli jam or your favourite hot sauce. You can also top it with baked beans or your favourite baked potato topping.

Which potatoes can you use for making Hasselback Potatoes?

In this recipe, I used regular baking potatoes. You can use Maris Piper or any other. You can even make this with sweet potatoes too.
If you want to make the Ultimate Baked Potato, try one of these methods.
