The Austin City Council approved a rezoning request for a city block to accommodate a plan to redevelop the block with two high-rise towers that would hold a mix of uses along West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 18th Street in downtown Austin.
The Austin Business Journal reports the redevelopment project would include building two towers, with one tower being a 476-room hotel with nearly 35,000 square feet of office and retail space and the other tower being a 287-unit multifamily project with 35,000 square feet of retail space.Â
These towers would replace the existing low-rise buildings on the site that currently hold a Jack Brown Cleaners location, the original Tiff’s Treat cookie store, a Jimmy John’s and some low-rise apartment buildings.
Rundog Real Estate Group is the developer.
Besides the land use request, Rundog is also seeking approval for Austin’s Downtown Density Bonus Program.
