Work began recently on Eastland Sports Campus, a 29-acre, 100,000-square-foot indoor sports center with space for 10 full-size basketball courts, as well as six outdoor soccer fields with multipurpose flexibility. Partners include Edge Sports Global, BIC (Bolton, Ivory, Cantey) and Charlotte Soccer Academy.
The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports the sports campus at Eastland Yards is expected to cost $67.1 million to build. Of that amount, city government has committed $30 million to support construction ($20 million) and site improvements ($10 million). Council approved the $30 million in summer 2023.
The soccer fields will take about eight months to build and will open first. The indoor facility will take 12-to-14 months. The full project is expected to deliver in 2028.
Eastland Yards is a public-private venture that aims to transform 80 acres at the site of the former Eastland Mall into a community-centered district featuring housing, retail, park space, and public facilities.Â
