BMW will unveil the new i3 electric sedan later this month, continuing the rollout of the new Neue Klasse design direction. That styling language first appeared on the new iX3 and will also influence the upcoming combustion-powered 3-Series. The two models will not share the same architecture, however, as the gasoline version will ride on an evolved version of the current CLAR platform.
A new two-door 4-Series may also be in the pipeline and would likely adopt the same Neue Klasse design language spreading across the company’s lineup.

Although the electric 3-Series is just around the corner, the next 4-Series is believed to be several years away. According to reports, the current 4-Series, including the M4, will remain in production until June 2029.

That timeline creates an unusual bit of overlap within BMW’s performance lineup. The next-gen hybrid M3 is expected to enter production in the first quarter of next year, meaning the outgoing 4-Series and the new electrified M3 will briefly share space in showrooms.
Eventually, though, the current 4-Series will reach the end of its run. What replaces it remains unclear. BMW could continue with a combustion-powered coupe, pivot to an electric i4-style successor, or offer both.
For now, there are only hints and speculation. Still, a set of fresh renderings from Nikita Chuyko, better known online as Kelsonik, imagines what a future 4-Series Coupe shaped by BMW’s next design era might look like.

The Gran Coupe body style currently offered may be discontinued, leaving only a traditional coupe and a convertible in the lineup. These renders show a car with a broadly similar silhouette to today’s 4-Series, but one transformed by completely new front and rear fascias.
Like the i3, the next 4-Series would feature the same angular LED headlights seen on other Neue Klasse models, flowing cleanly into a smaller interpretation of BMW’s kidney grilles. Below that sits an entirely new lower grille section, blacked out and shaped with a sharper, more angular appearance.

These images also depict the new model with simplified door panels that include flush handles. BMW’s signature Hofmeister kink remains intact, while narrow new taillights appear at the rear. A redesigned rear bumper and a gloss-black diffuser complete the updated look.
If BMW ultimately heads in this direction, would you want the next 4-Series as a gas coupe, an EV, or both?
