- BMW celebrates 40 years of the M3 with a new M4 Legacy Edition.
- Production is limited to just 40 units for the Canadian market.
- Three heritage colors link the model to BMW’s performance past.
BMW is marking four decades of the M3 Coupe with a commemorative special edition. To do it, the company has introduced the 2027 M4 Coupe M Legacy Edition. The name is a bit of a mouthful. For now, it is also a Canada-only affair.
Production will be tightly limited as just 40 cars are planned in total. Buyers can choose between the standard rear-wheel-drive M4 Coupe or the all-wheel-drive M4 Competition Coupe, both included in that small run. No performance changes have been made, but let’s be honest, the M4 is already a road-going rocket ship, so it’s not exactly in need of any extra power.

The most significant change is a set of new 826M-style wheels, adorned with the same exclusive gold-bronze finish as on the M4 CS. BMW has then added special M graphics to the hood and running across the car’s tailgate, adding to the motorsport edge without looking as if an owner has slapped on the cheapest vinyl they could find from AutoZone.
Shoppers will be able to order the M4 Coupe M Legacy Edition in either Laguna Seca Blue, Velvet Blue Metallic, or Imola Red II, each of which has a rich history with the brand.
The Finer Details

Inside, every example comes trimmed in black full Merino leather with Nappa leather covering the dashboard. The cabin also includes the M Driver’s Package, carbon-fiber interior trim, and an M Alcantara steering wheel, the same design used in the M4 CS and CSL.
BMW says the special edition version of the standard M4 Coupe will cost CAD$115,500 (equal to $84,600 at current rates), while the M4 Competition Coupe-based version is set to kick off from CAD$124,500 ($91,200). The first units will land in local dealerships in the third-quarter.
Will The US Get One?
While there’s no word yet on the US getting its own version of the M4 to celebrate 40 years of the M3 Coupe, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this model also sold Stateside. In November last year, BMW unveiled the M340i 50 Jahre Edition, initially announcing it as a Canada-only exclusive. However, just two weeks later, it was announced that the car would also be sold in limited numbers in the US. The same may happen here.
