It was a dozen years ago that Volvo introduced the second-generation XC90 SUV with distinctive horizontal headlamps nicknamed “Thor’s Hammer” in tribute to the Norse god of thunder, strength, and protection. Most Volvos redesigned since then have integrated these mallet-shaped white lights, tweaked slightly here and there for styling purposes, but generally staying true to form as new models come along.
