JDM Hype Is Real
When it comes to classic cars, imports have slowly grown in popularity and demand. Especially cars that are past the 25-year rule, which allows cars older than that mark to be imported into the U.S. and exempt from certain DOT and EPA standards.
A highly sought-after car is the Nissan Skyline GT-R, specifically the late-1990s R34 generation, of Fast and Furious fame. One example is now up for auction, and it looks like it could go for a lot of money.

Midnight Purple R34
Listed now on Cars and Bids is a 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec in Midnight Purple II. The GT-R itself is already pretty special, but the V-Spec takes it to another level of rarity and performance, and it’s finished in an iconic GT-R colorway and has only 6,000 miles.
Most JDM cars have been heavily modified, which affects the value; this car is basically stock. It still has the stock 18-inch rims, the Nissan ATTESA E-TS Pro AWD system, a Super HICAS rear-wheel steering system, Brembo brake calipers, a carbon fiber rear diffuser, and the digital display. Some of the notable mods made by the owners are still in tune with the brand, featuring Nismo pedal covers, Nismo shift knob, and turbo timer.
V-Spec means Victory Specification, a name given to the R34 to celebrate the car and the brand’s successes in Group A Touring Car races. It got the legendary 2.6L twin-turbocharged inline-6 RB26DETT, which made an “official” 276 hp, but was rumored to make closer to 320-330 hp. Apart from the upgraded ATTESA system, it also got stiffer springs, re-valved dampers, and a 15mm lowered ride height.

High Value Example
Given the condition of this particular R34 GT-R, especially in V-Spec trim, it will surely fetch top dollar. Right now, the highest offer is $180,000, but with a few more days left on the auction clock, we can expect that number to continue rising.
Should you be interested, the seller notes that the car will be at Sonoma for the auction itself, and transportation from there will be at the buyer’s expense. Also, the Skyline may not meet emission standards in some states, so it’s best to check before purchasing.
