During a media event that launched the first Audi RS4s in Canada, an Audi engineer was answering question after question about the machine’s absolutely gnarly exhaust note. Apparently, Audi bosses typically asked his team to turn the volume down on the exhaust of prototype RS cars by about 20 percent before they reached production. With this in mind, his team purposely made the RS4’s exhaust 20 percent too loud in the prototype phase. When management requested the volume be turned down a little, the production RS4’s exhaust landed exactly where they wanted it.
