Built For The Purists
The development of V12 engines today has faced growing challenges, although some automakers continue to push ahead. Ferrari and Lamborghini are among the most notable examples, but some may argue that Gordon Murray Automotive has taken the V12 formula to another level. The latest evolution of that philosophy, the T.50s Niki Lauda, is set to make its public debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The T.50s is the track-only version of the T.50, with performance upgrades that include an output increase from 654 horsepower in the road-going model to 761 horsepower from its 3.9-liter Cosworth V12. Peak power arrives at 11,500 rpm, while the rev limit is set at 12,100 rpm, which should be music to the ears of attendees once the car runs up the Goodwood Hill.

Racing Roots Run Deep
The show car will be chassis number one, built to honor Murray’s first Formula One victory at Kyalami in South Africa in 1974. It wears a white body with a South African flag-inspired livery, along with a gloss black number 7 inspired by the Brabham BT44 that Carlos Reutemann drove to the checkered flag.
While all 100 T.50 customer cars have been delivered, only 25 examples of the T.50s will be built. Gordon Murray Automotive is taking a more creative approach to naming them, with each car commemorating Murray’s first 24 Grand Prix victories at different circuits and a special endurance-racing win. The naming scheme serves as a reminder of Murray’s remarkable motorsport legacy and his impact on automotive design, including the creation of the iconic McLaren F1.

A Four-Car Showcase
In addition to the debut of Gordon Murray Automotive’s track weapon, the automaker will also display three other cars at the event: the T.33 Spider validation prototype, the Le Mans GTR XP1 experimental prototype, and the S1 LM design model. The S1 LM will notably make its European debut following its record-setting $20.6 million sale during the Las Vegas Grand Prix last year, making it the most expensive new car ever sold at auction, excluding charitable sales.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is scheduled for July 9 to 12 in West Sussex, England. Other confirmed brand-new cars coming to the event include models from BYD’s premium Denza brand, MG, and Renault, led by the 5 Turbo 3E. The Yangwang U9 Xtreme will also grace the event, known for dethroning the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ as the world’s fastest production car after hitting 308.4 mph in September 2025.
