
PNC Bank paid $4.1 billion for FirstBank Holding Co. earlier this year. Now, PNCÂ is taking down the FirstBank signs and replacing them with their own at 82 branches throughout Colorado. PNC now has 120 branches statewide.
The Denver Business Journal reports FirstBank was the state’s largest until PNC took it over. PNC is the nation’s seventh-largest bank and is now Denver’s largest. As of June 2025, FirstBank had 12.33% of Colorado’s market share by deposits and PNC held 0.95%. After the combination, PNC ranks second behind Colorado market-share leader Wells Fargo’s 18.13%.
In April, PNC revealed it would lay off 777 people. The jobs eliminated were said to be primarily administrative.
In 2024, PNC announced a $2 billion coast-to-coast expansion of its branches.
