The Autoblog spy photographers have captured our first images of the upcoming BMW i3 Touring, or station wagon, and as expected, it looks a lot like the i3 sedan revealed earlier this year. Normally, news of a new German wagon means nothing to America, but on this occasion, we might actually get BMW’s newest wagon, which was teased back in March and is expected to enter production later this year, with arrival at dealers set for early 2027. Let’s take a look at the styling and then discuss what to expect under the skin.
BMW i3 Touring Is A Longroof i3 Sedan

BMW has covered up the front and rear ends of this i3 Touring prototype, but it’s clear that the station wagon will closely adhere to the styling of its sedan sibling, with a mask-like front end stretching across the upper fascia. At the back, the taillights are similar to the sedan’s, too, with thin, long clusters spanning the width of the tailgate. In profile, we see that the glasshouse tapers upward behind the C-pillar, helping the roof look more aggressively curved. However, a large rear windshield and a relatively flat roofline suggest the i3 Touring will be very spacious inside.

Speaking of the inside, the i3 Touring will adopt the Panoramic Vision iDrive system from other recent Bimmers, with a long, thin display residing at the base of the windshield with the most important information displayed within. Behind a four-spoke steering wheel will be no screen, with only a ‘freecut’ touch display measuring 17.9 inches in the center of the dash. It’s still not a done deal that the NA1 i3 Touring will come to America, with most of the chatter on the subject related to the G51 3 Series Touring (the combustion model), but if it does, it will be an impressive choice.
BMW i3 Touring Powertrain: Other BMWs Provide Clues
Autoblog/SH Proshots
The electric wagon will be built atop the same 800-volt Neue Klasse architecture found beneath the i3 sedan and the iX3 crossover. In the three-box i3 revealed earlier this year, only the dual-motor i3 50 xDrive powertrain has been announced, which develops 463 horsepower, but the iX3 40 gets a single rear motor making 316 hp, and that’s likely to be an option here. The i3 sedan boasts a 559-mile WLTP range from its 108.7-kWh battery, and although the extra heft of the station wagon body will likely cut a few miles from that figure, the i3 Touring should still manage long distances with ease. Later, a mild-hybrid 3 Series Touring with similar looks will arrive, and an M3 wagon for both combustion and electric variants is being considered. We’ll report back once we know more.
