People often have their own reasons for buying a hybrid, but they’re often interested in knowing how far such a vehicle can go in purely electric mode. That can produce a very interesting range-versus-price metric, showing (for example) that a mainstream Toyota is a far better buy than a luxury BMW, even though those vehicles may not be directly comparable in other respects. A Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid SE can travel much farther without starting its gas engine than a BMW X5 xDrive 50e, which is especially notable given that the Toyota costs $34,500 less than the BMW.
