Blink and You’ll Miss it
Back in June, reports from Japan mentioned that the Honda Accord was set to get a ‘major’ facelift of sorts this year. It sounded like the perfect time, too, as this year marks the 50th anniversary of the much-loved nameplate.
Now, that time has come, and the 2027 Japanese-market Honda Accord looks…the same as before. Okay, there are some changes, but you’ll need a pair of eagle eyes to play this losing game of spot the difference. Still, any Accord news is welcome given that the market it competes in is getting thinner by the minute, and it’s good to know that Honda is giving the car some attention.

What Exactly is New?
It’s as minor as it gets, to be frank about it. The headlight surrounds are now body-colored instead of black, while the grille gets the same treatment. That said, the grille will only be body-colored if you go specifically for Canyon River Blue. Go for a different color and the grille is finished in gloss black. Lastly, the entire lower half of the car is painted now.
In other words, Honda is quite proud of the fact that it’s painted more parts of its midsize sedan now. Then again, the Accord is pitched as an executive car in its home market, so grey, unpainted plastics are probably a no-no. Also, do remember that the Toyota Camry is about to be sold over in Japan, so this update was probably done to bring more attention to the Honda.

Where are the Big Changes?
Well, it doesn’t look like it’s coming this year, but Honda did confirm that we can expect a major changes for the Accord soon. That was confirmed by American Honda’s head of product planning, Gary Robinson. The concept shown back in May could be a preview of what to expect.
More recently, it was said that the future model could get a Crosstour-style refresh by 2029. As Honda will be extending the life of its current midsize to large platforms, it could be a reskin of the present model but with a tad more ground clearance. Whatever the case may be, we may be in for a surprise.
