Rolling Into the Multiverse
Automakers showcasing their new models on the silver screen is nothing new. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the now-discontinued Audi R8 is known for being Tony Stark’s, or Iron Man’s, go-to car. The animated Spider-Verse film also featured Hyundai’s Ioniq lineup as the electric vehicle market was beginning to boom.
Sticking with the world of Spider-Man, the newest installment, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, features the BMW iX3 and 5 Series Sedan. The iX3 is a notable casting choice, given that it is the first series-production model from the Bavarian automaker’s next-generation, EV-dedicated Neue Klasse platform. The connection is fitting: Spider-Man enters a new chapter in a world where no one knows him, while the iX3 marks a new beginning for BMW.
More Than a Cameo
But this collaboration isn’t limited to the big screen. Many compatible BMW vehicles can access the Spider-Man Animation, comprising a full-screen animation on the Control Display with backing music and an accompanying ambient-light show. It is available in more than 70 countries from July 27 through August 10 on suitably equipped BMWs built after July 2020 and running Operating System 7, 8, 8.5, 9, or X.
BMW also created a one-off iX3 to celebrate the movie, called the iX3 Flow – Spider-Man Brand New Day. Developed in close collaboration with Sony and Marvel, the EV uses dynamic graphics and full-color E Ink Prism elements to bring Spider-Man’s visual world to life across its exterior. It will be displayed at BMW Welt in Munich, Germany, through September.
The iX3’s Next Big Role
While Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released exclusively in theaters on July 31, 2026, the BMW iX3 will officially enter the U.S. market on September 25. The configurator and reservation portal are already live, with the EV starting at $61,500, excluding destination charges.
The iX3 offers an estimated range of up to 434 miles, based on preliminary tests using EPA testing procedures, and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes at a DC fast-charging station. Its standard NACS port also provides access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. While the Neue Klasse lineup is still young and growing, the iX3 competes with models such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric and Audi Q6 e-tron.
