Audi’s five-cylinder engines have been one of the brand’s hallmarks dating back nearly 50 years, but that long string of uneven cylinder counts was set to end just over a year from now. Emissions rules in the EU would be the death of it, and Audi has already pared it down to only the hot compact RS3. Now the five-pot could be getting a stay of execution. It could even get another whole model generation.
