The Hot New Model
Now entering the testing phase, Mercedes-AMG has taken its prototype to the Nürburgring, as per usual. That said, we won’t be long before we see its final form, but it might take a little longer after what happened at the Nordschleife.
The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Prototype was spotted not long ago, sparking hope among Mercedes fans after the reception the AMG GT 4-Door got. “Kill it with fire,” some fans said, with others suggesting the 4-door is undeserving of the “GT” name from Mercedes-AMG. Now, ironically, that fire found its way to the Black Series prototype, and we hope all of this gets patched up soon.
All Fired Up
A set of images was posted on Instagram by mercedes_fans.de, who spotted the camouflaged Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series prototype burning at the track. The images were about a day old at the time of writing, so the news is still hot off the press.
In the photos, the new Black Series appears camouflaged, with a few flames peeking out from under the car and through its fender vents. Mercedes-AMG’s team responded quickly after what appeared to be a very hot lap. Fire extinguishers and apparently cameras were brought out to capture the event and snuff out the flames.
The cause of the fire is unknown, and no one has confirmed it was caused by the powertrain, brakes, or the vehicle’s electrical systems, but the rear taillight stopped working, so something could have gone haywire during the test run.
Back to the Paddock
Fortunately, nobody was injured. The driver escaped the vehicle unharmed. The car sustained only minor fire damage, and props to the team for responding quickly and putting the fire out before it could cause serious damage to the hotly anticipated model.
The incident was controlled, and judging by the photos, the folks over at Mercedes-AMG have it handled. We’ll keep an eye out for more hot news about the GT Black Series; hopefully the model wows us when it launches and doesn’t go up in smoke.
