Moishe Mana, Founder and Chairman of Mana Common, closed the sale of approximately 30 acres of his Wynwood assemblage to Citadel Founder and CEO Ken Griffin for approximately $1.1 billion. Mana says this is the most expensive land assemblage sale ever in South Florida and it culminates 16 years of purchasing property in Wynwood for Mana.
The site is planned to establish a new campus for Carnegie Mellon University. In total, Griffin is donating $3 billion to get the new campus going. Griffin’s investment in CMU is the largest-ever gift by an individual in the history of higher education.
The 35-acre campus will host more than 3,500 undergraduate, master’s degree and PhD students when completed, along with 300 faculty and over 600 staff members. Construction should start in 2027, and the first student could enroll in 2028.
Rather than academic majors, it will focus on human health and biological discovery; national security and strategic capabilities; energy and climate resilience; and advanced manufacturing and industrial transformation.
