Jaguar’s Next Model Is Already in the Works
Jaguar’s eyes are already on what comes after the Type 01, with plans to double down on electric power and upmarket flair. But if you’re hoping to see the next big cat soon, you’ll need some patience – Jaguar wants its first new model to make a splash before it adds anything else to the stable.
Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover has outlined the company’s immediate priorities. “Jaguar’s immediate priority is establishing the Type 01 in the market. As soon as that is done, we will come with a second car. The follow-up model will arrive before 2030,” Glover told Automotive News.
So, don’t expect to see Jaguar’s next new car until late in the decade, as there’s no official reveal date yet. The brand is taking its time and wants to become a boutique luxury brand rather than compete directly with the biggest names.

A More Practical Jaguar Could Follow in 2028
The second model is widely expected to be an SUV-like electric crossover, potentially called the Type 02. According to carsales, the vehicle could arrive as early as 2028, with its reveal expected to follow the start of Type 01 customer deliveries, which are scheduled for the second half of 2027.
Unlike the low-slung Type 01, the upcoming model should offer greater everyday usability while retaining the brand’s new design language. It is also expected to use Jaguar’s in-house Jaguar Electrified Architecture (JEA), the same platform underpinning the first model.
Glover has made it clear that Jaguar does not intend to build another version of a Range Rover or Defender. “For me, Range Rover is the best high-sided SUV [and] Defender is the most capable high-sided SUV – why would I want to go up against that?” he told carsales.
Jaguar wants its next car to stand out among Land Rover vehicles by focusing on comfort and smooth driving rather than off-road ability. It will be a more practical, but still very Jaguar, alternative to the Type 01, without competing with Range Rover.
Specs are still a mystery, but word is it could borrow the Type 01’s monster 118-kWh battery and triple-motor setup – good for a wild 1,016 hp and 1,007 lb-ft of torque. Take those numbers with a grain of salt for now.

A Smaller Lineup With a Different Purpose
Jaguar’s careful approach is intentional. The brand is changing direction, aiming for tens of thousands of sales instead of trying to sell as many cars as possible, and focusing on profit and exclusivity over high sales volume.
The US is set to be the main hunting ground for the Type 01, with plenty of deep-pocketed buyers and strong brand recognition. Jaguar’s also trimming its dealer network way down – from about 1,100 to just 250 or so.
Jaguar’s playing its cards close to the chest for now. The Type 01 has to set the tone, and the next models will branch out to new buyers – but all will stick to that fresh luxury-modernist look.
