The idea that an EV sports car has to be a bloated, soul-sapping machine is being challenged from an unlikely corner of the globe. A Chinese startup with ties to smartphone giant Xiaomi has built a 430-horsepower open-top roadster that tips the scales at just over 3,000 pounds — lighter than many ICE sports cars and a fraction of the weight of most EVs in its performance bracket. Called the SC01, it has already launched in China and is now making its way to European roads, where it will take aim at some very established names.
