General Motors is accelerating the mid-cycle refresh for the 2027 Chevrolet Colorado. To maintain pace with newly redesigned competitors in the midsize truck segment, Chevrolet is implementing a major update ahead of its standard production schedules. This accelerated timeline signals a shift in GM’s product strategy: introducing significant hardware and trim changes now rather than waiting for a full generational redesign.
Inside the cabin, the 2027 model resolves a widely noted equipment omission. Chevrolet will finally introduce a necessary comfort feature by adding a power-adjustable front passenger seat. This functional addition improves interior ergonomics for longer journeys and aligns the Colorado’s base equipment list with current consumer expectations for the segment.

The Desert Boss is Back
According to a recent report by GM Authority, the 2027 Chevy Colorado will officially resurrect the Desert Boss Special Edition package as a dealer-installed LPO option for the ZR2 trim. This returning special edition was last seen during a brief 2023 production run before mysteriously vanishing. The new package transforms the standard ZR2 into an absolute dune-bashing weapon right off the showroom floor.
We reached out to GM to confirm whether the Desert Boss Special Edition package has returned to the Chevy Colorado lineup. We’ll update this story once we hear back.
The Desert Boss equipment list is a hardcore off-roader’s dream, featuring an aggressive Off-Road Front Bumper Package a specialized Off Road Lighting Package to illuminate pitch-black trails. Most significantly, it brings Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, previously reserved for the extreme ZR2 Bison, to the standard ZR2, vastly improving high-speed desert-running capability. The truck commands attention with Tech Bronze Recovery Hooks, a unique Front Fender Decal Package, and premium Door Sill Plates.
Because this is a highly exclusive configuration, Chevrolet restricts the Desert Boss package solely to the standard ZR2, meaning buyers cannot combine it with the ZR2 Bison or Midnight editions. Under the hood, the entire Colorado lineup benefits from a heavily revised turbocharged powertrain churning out a staggering 350 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. This powerplant complements the Desert Boss’s suspension upgrades, providing the low-end grunt needed to tackle deep sand and steep inclines.

No Soft-Roader Here
The modern midsize segment has grown dangerously crowded with overpriced, over-styled soft-roaders that cosplay as Baja-beating trucks. By offering factory-backed armor and elite damper technology, Chevrolet gives purists exactly what they crave without forcing them into an aftermarket guessing game.
More importantly, bumping the four-cylinder powertrain to 350 horses proves GM is actually listening to power-hungry truck enthusiasts. You can add all the expensive bumper winches and suspension lift kits in the world, but if you lack the low-end torque to pull yourself out of a deep mud rut, you are just driving a heavy paperweight. This 2027 revamp puts the Colorado in firm contention to be the king of the dirt hill.
