Controversial Rebirth
Jaguar’s history is sacred to the automotive industry; it once stood as a pillar of British premium motoring, representing the old-world idea of luxury. However, the years haven’t been kind to the brand, forcing it back to the drawing board and prompting a relaunch as a modern, younger, hip, forward-thinking brand. Many people have shared their opinions on the rebranding and new direction; not many have been favorable.
The same sentiments cropped up again when Jaguar officially launched its first new car under the new brand direction. The Type 01 is the final rendering of the sedan Type 00 concept shown a few years ago. Opinions on the Type 01 are divided, but a rendering of it as an SUV might reverse the negative opinions.

Type 01 SUV Rendering
People have said that the Type 01 sedan looks nothing like a Jaguar should, but that’s final, and there’s nothing we can do about it. My main issue with the 01 sedan is that the design doesn’t blend well as a sedan; it looks too polarizing, with proportions like the car in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
However, we know the sedan is likely just the first form of the 01, and that an SUV will debut eventually. Sugardesign_1 on Instagram produced his own renders of what a Type 01 SUV would look like, and the results are surprisingly good. The “Exuberant Modernism” design language fits an SUV better. Instead of the awkward low and long silhouette of the sedan, the SUV render’s higher roofline and taller ride height make the design more cohesive, to the point that maybe it should’ve been an SUV in the first place. It also integrates the striking and controversial no-rear-window slatted design better, but it’s more obvious now than on the sedan.
Generic-looking?
As good as these renders are, some still find the Type 01 lacking any identity. Some users commented on Sugardesign_1’s Instagram that while it looks better as an SUV, it looks too generic and could pass off as a car from Hyundai, Kia, or any Chinese EV. Sadly, I tend to agree: the Type 01’s overall Monolithic and modern design isn’t a standout as an SUV; instead, it blends in.
In any case, if Jaguar actually makes a Type 01 SUV in this form, I’m betting it would sell much better than the sedan it follows. We might not have to wait long to see this, because Jaguar did say a second model is set to debut by 2030.
