The first of the Porsche 911 GT3 generations was the 996 that went on sale in Europe in 1999, but the first to be sold in the US would be that car’s mid-cycle refresh called the 996.2, which arrived for the 2004 model year, packing 380 hp with a six-speed stick shift. It was only on the market for two model years, and the redesign of the Porsche 911, GT3 included, was called the 997 and would go on sale for 2007 with the GT3 now upgraded to 415 hp.
