- BMW M4 Competition crash was caught on camera during a mountain drive in California.
- The driver lost control mid-turn and crashed right into a rock wall along the roadside.
- Possible causes include a disabled traction control system and questionable judgment at speed.
There’s a fine line between enjoying a performance car and overestimating your own driving talent. That line usually gets crossed on a scenic road with no margin for error, which is exactly what happened when a BMW M4 Competition took an unscheduled detour into the rocks on a California mountain pass.
What started as a spirited drive through the mountains ended abruptly when the bright yellow M4 lost grip and plowed into a rock wall along the edge of what appears to be the Angeles Crest Highway, a famously twisty route cutting through the San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles County.

The entire accident was caught on camera by a motorcyclist who posts under the name Dr Twist on YouTube. The footage shows two cars pushing the pace on a clear, sunny day. While following a wide curve, the M4 suddenly veers off the road and crashes into the mountainside. The exact cause isn’t confirmed, but signs point to traction control being turned off. It’s possible the driver panicked as the rear end stepped out and failed to correct in time.
It’s the kind of moment where an experienced driver might have saved the car with quick hands and careful throttle. But realistically, the better move would’ve been leaving the electronic safety nets alone. BMW includes them for a reason.
The impact was rough. The BMW briefly goes airborne before coming down hard on a gravel shoulder. Visible damage includes a cracked front bumper, possible suspension failure, and deployed airbags. In other words, it’s going to be an expensive fix.
In the video, two bikers and a man without protective gear can be seen near the wrecked car. It’s unclear who was behind the wheel, but there is a high chance that the occupants escaped without any injuries.

This particular M4 Competition is a pre-facelift model finished in Sao Paulo Yellow, and it doesn’t stop there. It’s fitted with an aftermarket body kit featuring canards, extended side skirts, and a fixed rear wing. Inside, it has the optional M Carbon bucket seats, heavy carbon fiber trim, and Merino leather upholstery in Yas Marina Blue and black with yellow contrast accents.
The current BMW M4 Competition starts at $84,300 in the US, but this particular model likely carries a significantly higher price tag due to its customizations.Hopefully, the lesson sticks: traction control is your friend, and no amount of confidence can replace it on a mountain road.
