Luxury cars are aspirational purchases. We need transport, but we want leather seats, fancy audio systems, and 20-inch rims. But wants always cost more than needs, and that’s where the entry-level luxury cars try to bridge the gap. They attempt to offer just enough desirability to separate themselves from the budget offerings, but not so much that you don’t yearn for the next step up the ladder. After all, the whole point of a brand like Mercedes, Infiniti or BMW is to keep you wanting more.
