(NewsNation) — The oldest son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been charged with rape, sexual assault and bodily harm, according to reports.
Marius Borg Hoiby, the stepson of the throne’s heir, Crown Prince Haakon, is facing multiple charges after a monthslong investigation. Oslo Police Attorney Andreas Kruszewski said that the crown princess’ son was cooperative during the investigation, and evidence was taken from texts, witnesses and police searches.
Kruszewski revealed during a news conference, “I cannot go into further detail about the number of victims in the case beyond confirming that it is a double-digit number.” He also reportedly said that the charges included:
- Once case of rape involving intercourse
- Two cases of rape without intercourse
- Four cases of sexual assault
- Two cases of bodily harm
Marius Borg Hoiby arrested multiple times in 2024: Reports
Hoiby had allegedly been arrested several times last year during the allegations of rape and on preliminary bodily harm and criminal damage charges. The 28-year-old was born before Mette-Marit’s marriage in 2021 to Haakon.
Even though he has no official public role, he was still raised with his step-siblings, 21-year-old Princess Ingrid Alexandra and 19-year-old Prince Sverre Magnus. Petar Sekulic, Hoiby’s attorney, said he used to live with the royal family but now lives in a separate home.

Sekulic told The Associated Press that Hoiby was “absolutely taking the accusations very seriously, but doesn’t acknowledge any wrongdoing in most of the cases — especially the cases regarding sexual abuse and violence.”
The royal palace has not commented on the matter.
