My family has fallen in love….with ebikes. I rarely come across a product that is so broadly appealing to so many age groups, so many life stages, so many lifestyles. Whether you are shopping for a child or yourself, an upcoming birthday or a way to get more active or a new activity for family time, you may want to jump on the ebike bandwagon.
I first came across the Aventon ebikes at a local ebike rental shop. After doing some research, the Aventon Adventure ebike consistently topped lists for the best combination of price, comfort, power, performance and features. After one hour-long rental ride, I was hooked!
I scored the Adventure 2 as birthday gift from my family last year (which is $400 off right now for 4th of July!) and rode that thing everywhere – from quick trips to the store and dog walks to meeting friends downtown and sunset cruises. And so I jumped at the chance to have my husband try out their new Aventon Adventure 3.Â
First, let me convince you why you (or someone you know) will love an ebike.
9 Reasons You Need an Ebike
Ebikes let you bike further
Before experiencing an ebike, there was a mental radius I had of where I would travel on a traditional bike. After ebikes? All bets are off. Yes, I will meet you downtown. Yes, you can go hangout with your friend who lives 2 miles away. Yes, we can hit breakfast, the farmer’s market, a swing by the beach AND still make it back home. With a 70-mile range like the Aventon Adventure 3, your bike won’t be the reason you limit your excursion.
Ebikes let you bike faster
Maybe your distance is farther away than you’d like. Maybe it’s colder/hotter out than you’d like. Maybe you are just late for school or your girls dinner. An ebike helps you get where you want to be faster. The Aventon Adventure 3 starts out at a top speed of 20 mph (which if you haven’t ridden that on a bike before is downright FUN and definitely fast enough for me!). Not fast enough for you? Download the Aventon app and you can unlock the bike to go up to 28mphs! And let me just say….I have never seen a bike bring THAT big of a smile to my husband’s face.
Ebikes let you bike…without even pedaling
Beat after a long day at work? Muscles sore after leg day? Just…feeling lazy? No worries. With the Aventon Adventure you can opt for three levels of pedal assist or you can opt for the straight throttle. That means you press a button on the handlebar and you and your bike go. No effort. No pedaling. All the joy and speed with none of the (literal) legwork.
Ebikes let you control your level of workout
That said….when you ARE looking to have your excursion be a workout, you get to choose the level of assistance the Aventon provides. From Eco to Turbo, you can choose the level of assistance the ebike provides based on your location and motivation. Want even more control? You can customize the your ride with the Aventon app which lets you adjust the torque, assistance and pedal response for all three of the pedal assist modes.
Ebikes let you get around car-less
Whether you are concerned about the environment, don’t want to worry about parking or just want to get some fresh air, an ebike lets you get out without getting in the car. For convenience, saving money and benefiting your mental state, this comes in more handy than you’d think. Biking to a birthday lunch? Yes please!
Ebike give preteens more freedom
I have three boys. Boys who are social and play sports and who want to go to see friends. While my oldest two can already drive, my 14-year-old would borrow my Adventure 2 to meet friends at the beach or head to the gym when I was stuck in a work meeting. I’m a big proponent of developing independence in doses and the ebike fits the bill for a pre-car step in terms of independence and responsibility. (Helmets required!)
Ebikes help encourage exercise and engagement
I have a neighbor who would always walk the neighborhood with her dog, but after a hip surgery, her recovery was slow which she told me led to some weight gain and decreased her overall mobility. Walking the neighborhood became cumbersome and I stopped seeing her out and about. Then, she got this rad ebike tricycle thing. Riding allowed her to exercise. It also got her out of the house. It helped her rehab her hip. Pretty soon, she was cruising around the neighborhood again. She got her independence back, her mobility back and best of all, her smile back.
Ebikes make family outings way more fun
If I ask my husband or kids to go on a bike ride with me, the answer would likely be no. Add in an ebike and then, suddenly they are game. Why? The novelty. The speed. The fact that it’s downright fun. With the ebike, suddenly a trip to the store or downtown becomes an adventure, not a chore!
Ebikes help you carry kids, gear and more
Doing things with kids means schlepping stuff. Whether it’s diapers, snacks and a favorite blanket for little kids to boogie boards, takeout burgers and a portable speaker for older kids, going out means carrying stuff. Luckily ebikes make carrying your kids and your gear easy. From kid carriers and cargo baskets to surfboard racks and cell phone holders, you can carry everyone and everything you need and STILL make it up that hill.
Aventon Adventure 3
If you’re looking for an everyday ebike that can handle casual riding on multiple types of terrain, comes with lots of convenient built-in features and costs less than $2,000, the Aventon Adventure 3 ebike is one of the best options on the market.
And don’t be put off by the size and heft of the fat tire. While Aventon does offer other ebike styles, the fat tires keep the bike sturdy and able to handle gravel roads, dirt paths, sand and grass with ease.
As someone who recently had their ebike stolen (RIP Adventure 2!), I especially appreciate the new security upgrades on the Adventure 3 including GPS tracking to remember where you parked and get notified if your bike gets moved, an integrated rear wheel lock and keyless battery removal for even more layers of theft deterrence.
Want more evidence that the Aventon Adventure ebikes offer the best ebike bang for your buck? While Outdoor Gear Lab, the Electric Bike Report and Reddit all agree, I’d recommend you find a bike shop in your area that allows free test rides or an ebike rental shop that carries Aventon. One ride is all it will take!
