Neil Jacobs, who was tapped by President Trump to lead the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will face the Senate in a confirmation hearing Wednesday morning.
Jacobs’s testimony before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee comes just days after heavy rainfall and disastrous flooding killed more than 100 people in Texas’s Hill Country — including more than two dozen children and counselors at an all-girls Christian camp. The news has sparked questions around the Trump administration’s moves to cut climate research and jobs at the agency deemed crucial to weather forecasting.
Trump is expected to visit the affected area on Friday.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
