Everybody hears about how much horsepower some cars have, or how fast another is, but did you know you can buy the powertrains in those models straight from a manufacturer? Some automakers offer powerful crate engines, sold separately from the vehicles they’re typically found in. They usually ship via freight in large wooden crates – hence the term “crate engine.” Some of the most popular crate engines come from manufacturers like Chevrolet with their “LS” lineup, but you can also find high-powered Mopar options, and Ford joins the fun with a few engines of their own too.
