Ford made a smart move when it launched the Maverick in late 2021. At a time when trucks were getting bigger, more expensive, and less efficient, Ford saw an opportunity to go in the opposite direction. The Maverick filled a clear gap in the market, delivering a pickup that was affordable, compact, fuel-efficient, and versatile enough for everyday drivers who didn’t need a full-size workhorse. The response was immediate and overwhelming. In 2022, its first full year on the market, the Maverick racked up nearly 75,000 sales in the US, making it more popular than the Ranger that year.
