Despite offering SUV models for a quarter-century at this point (happy 25th birthday, X5), BMW hasn’t really gotten in on the off-roading game like Mercedes-Benz does with its G-Class SUV. That may soon change, however, if a report in Automotive News is to be believed. The outlet claims that the German automaker most famous for competent, all-weather crossovers and sporty sedans and coupes is also working on a bona fide off-road–capable SUV that will finally give BMW a rival to the likes of the Land Rover Defender and aforementioned G-Wagen.
