President Trump blasted MSNBC overnight, mocking the network over a planned name and branding change as its parent company prepares to spin off its cable assets before the end of the year.
“LOOKING TO CHANGE THEIR NAME IN ORDER TO GET AWAY FROM THE STENCH OF THEIR FAKE NEWS PRODUCT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social just after midnight Thursday.
“SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH THEIR WEAK AND INEFFECTIVE OWNER, “CONCAST,” HEADED BY DOPEY BRIAN ROBERTS, HOPELESSLY AND AIMLESSLY FLAILING IN THE WIND IN AN ATTEMPT TO DISASSOCIATE ITSELF FROM THE GARBAGE THAT THEY CREATED! MSNBC IS A FAILURE BY ANY NAME!” he added.
Versant, the network’s parent company, announced Monday that MSNBC would soon be rebranded “MS NOW,” standing for My Source for News Opinion and the World, and drop the iconic Peacock logo it shared for years with NBC.
The change comes as Comcast, which owns Versant and Spin Co., looks to sell off its linear broadcast assets, including the progressive cable news network that draws regular scorn from Trump and his supporters.
The president has repeatedly blasted top hosts at MSNBC and threatened to use the power of his Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to review the network’s broadcast license.
