When it comes to outdoor lighting, function usually takes the lead, with durability and materiality topping the priority list. But what if those same fixtures could do more than just light the way? What if they could double as sculptural statements – pieces that feel as artful as something you’d spot in a luxury hotel courtyard, yet fit seamlessly into a backyard, patio, or garden? Lodes’ inaugural outdoor collection takes that “what if” and turns it into reality, blurring the line between functional lighting and open-air sculpture.
The debut collection, named simply OUTDOOR, features four distinct designs – Focus, Kinno, Chelsie, and Reed – with the latter designed in-house by Lodes and the others by creative visionary Patrick Norguet. Rather than relying on traditional lantern shapes or purely utilitarian floodlights, the designers embraced curves, clean lines, and unexpected inspiration to create fixtures that are as striking by day as they are by night.
Beyond looks, Lodes approaches this – and every – collection with longevity in mind. Outdoor lighting takes a beating from the elements, so each fixture is built not only for durability but also for responsible lifecycle management. Modular, replaceable components make repairs simple and end-of-life recycling easier, helping you avoid tossing the entire product when just one part needs replacing.
Focus borrows from the language of camera lenses and theater spotlights, casting precise beams that draw attention to the parts of a landscape you want to highlight most.
Kinno takes its cues from the natural world, its mushroom-like silhouette looking as if it simply sprouted from the ground – perfect for blending into lush greenery.
Chelsie delivers an ethereal wash of light along a pathway, available both as a sleek floor washer and a compact spotlight.
Reed lives up to its name with slender forms that can be planted directly into the earth, their rod or oval shapes evoking reeds by a pond or other organic flora.
Whether used alone or in combination, Lodes’ first ever outdoor collection proves that outdoor lighting can be both purposeful and poetic, like a quiet form of public art for your own backyard.
