The Downtown Austin’s YMCA finds itself in a pretty envious position. It will likely sell off adjacent land that will include over 1 million square feet of housing, and have the developer of the new housing build a new YMCA facility.
The Austin Business Journal Business Journal reports the redevelopment of the Townlake YMCA is a partnership between Greater Austin YMCA and Millennium Partners.
The planned unit development would include five buildings in total: a newly built YMCA, a stand-alone affordable housing building and three towers for market-rate condominiums. The new YMCA will be 110,000 square feet.
The affordable housing building will include 90 rental units reserved for households in the 55% median family income range. The majority will be two- and three–bedroom units aimed at providing families with the ability to live near downtown employers.
The three market-rate condominium buildings will have about 1 million square feet of housing spread across a maximum of 750 condos.
The current YMCA was built in 1970.
