- Only a few Demon 170s have been converted into fully functional convertibles.
- The Dodge-approved convertible build was created by Droptop Customs in Florida.
- Last year, a similar droptop Demon 170 sold for $242,000 at a Mecum sales event.
Dodge’s brutal Challenger SRT Demon 170 is one of the most powerful American cars ever, fitted with a raging 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 1,025 hp. How can you make a car like this even more special without adding stupid levels of power? Well, one way is to turn it into a convertible, and that’s exactly what Droptop Customs in Florida has done.
The Dodge-approved conversion cuts the fixed roof of the regular Demon 170 off and replaces it with a canvas top that can fold away at the tip of a button. It operates just how you’d expect a factory convertible to, although the folded top does sit exposed behind the rear seats, rather than being hidden from view. But, for an aftermarket conversion, it looks just fine.

Of course, Droptop Customs couldn’t simply remove the roof and call it a day, or else the Demon’s torque could twist the car’s chassis off the line, Fast & Furious style. So, they added some extra aluminum bracing to the body in order to regain some of the rigidity lost when the roof was chopped off.

It is understood that just a handful of Demon 170s have been transformed into convertibles, and on July 12, one of them will be auctioned off. This particular example is painted TorRed and has been driven just 22 miles. It is number 2891 of the 3,300 Demon 170s built and retains all of the original model’s features, except drivers can now get a tan while enjoying the whine of the massive supercharger under the hood.
But Is It $100K More Fun?
In May last year, Mecum Auctions sold another Demon 170 Convertible from Droptop Customs. That car had been driven 30 miles at the time and traded hands for a cool $242,000. However, we’d be surprised if, more than 12 months later, this one fetches that much.
This year, several low-mileage original Demon 170s have been sold on sites like Bring a Trailer for between $130,000 and $150,000, and it remains to be seen whether an aftermarket convertible conversion has added upwards of $100k to the car’s value.
