Mercedes-Benz’s AMG performance skunkworks has built up a reputation over the decades for its killer V8 engines. But only a few short years ago, it planned to abandon the much-loved engine as part of a move to a full-EV lineup by the end of the decade, mirroring a strategy at its Mercedes parent. The transition had already started, with the latest C63 opting for a plug-in hybrid setup built around a 4-cylinder engine.
