Apollo has had a rough time since it started out as Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur and delivered a spectacular supercar in the form of the 4.2 Audi V8-powered Apollo. Production of 150 units started 20 years ago, and its public benchmark test was the Top Gear test track, where it beat everything, including the Pagani Zonda and Bugatti Veyron. Following a bankruptcy and being bought by a consortium based in Hong Kong, the newly launched Apollo – yes, it took a model name and turned it into the company name – built 10 units of the Apollo Intensa Emozione. It was a wild-looking hypercar with a naturally aspirated Ferrari V12 with some help from HWA. Now, that engine is back in an even wilder hypercar: the production version of the Apollo EVO we first saw as a concept in 2021.
