The Pura Vida development was introduced with much fanfare. Two years ago, the promoters called the plans for the surf-themed development the “biggest surf park development on the planet.” After the initial excitement waned, the Austin Business Journal reports public filings indicate the company is still pursuing the project. The developer has secured more than 200 acres over the last few years. Additionally, Pura Vida is trying to work with the local and state governments to secure permits and incentives. So far, most of the requests involve securing water permits.
The company said its 12-acre surf park would be at the center of a future $1.3 billion community venture called Pura Vida. The community was to be surrounded by 400 acres of residential, restaurant, retail and hotel space. It’s slated to be built in Mustang Ridge, a town of just over 1,000, not far from Austin.
