You won’t find any nubby loops here. Instead, Finnish designer Hanna Anonen has reinterpreted the tactile charm of bouclé fabric using solid walnut and painted wood. Her new Bouclé Collection trades fibers for forms, turning texture into sculpture with a series of modular wall hangers, bringing a dose of playful precision to any wall.
Bouclé toes the line between functional design and wall art, which was exactly Anonen’s intention for its design. “I wanted to create a beautiful, functional everyday object – something that serves as a coat rack but also stands on its own as a decorative element,” the designer shares. “The Bouclé Collection invites people to interact with their spaces in a new way. Whether in an entryway, hallway, or public setting, it feels like part utility, part artwork.”
Available in four sizes, each piece features a lattice of rich walnut intersected by painted circular “knots” – Anonen’s clever nod to the texture and rhythm of traditional bouclé – that act as hanging points. The arrangement forms a polka dot-like pattern that’s both graphic and harmonious. Because the collection can be scaled in size and layout, Bouclé is equally suited for entryways, galleries, and hospitality settings as it is for your humble bedroom.
While some may simply see a playful wall hook, those in the know behind Bouclé will smile, recognizing the quiet nod to the textile – its texture reimagined in timber, its charm woven into every curve.
Anonen debuted the collection at Launch Pad by WantedDesign earlier this year, a milestone made possible with support from the Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York, and the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA).
