California Forever has submitted a formal application to build a new city of 400,000 people as part of the expansion of Suisun City within Solano County. The tech billionaire-backed California Forever initiative has been working with Suisun City’s municipal government, which has expressed interest in annexing land to create more cash flow.
The San Francisco Business Times reported that by building within Suisun City limits, California Forever can bypass the ballot initiative that would have been required to build in unincorporated Solano County. The plan involves the annexation of 20,000 acres east of Suisun City’s existing boundaries, the Business Times reported.
“We believe this project will bring to Suisun City and Solano County more broadly a major new employment center, including special focus on advanced manufacturing at the Solano Foundry, major new investments, a new source of tax revenue, and a multi-decade supply of new homes in well-planned, walkable neighborhoods for a wide range of people,” California Forever founder Jan Sramek and head of planning Gabriel Metcalf wrote in a letter to Suisun City officials.
Annexation and full buildout of the California Forever project are expected to take decades.
