- This crashed Porsche 911 Turbo S is rumored to be connected to MKBHD.
- Notably, it’s a salvage auction after the car in question suffered major damage.
- It’s unclear what happened, but the car could still have a happy YouTube ending.
This badly mangled Porsche 911 Turbo S was once a pristine supercar. Now, it sits in a salvage auction yard, waiting for someone with cash to determine its fate. Cars like this hit the auction block regularly, but this one stands out. There’s a chance it may have been owned by one of YouTube’s biggest stars — though, of course, that’s only important if you care about that sort of thing.
That YouTuber is MKBHD, aka Marques Brownlee, a tech personality who dabbles in cars on the side. He’s known for his passion for performance vehicles and bought what appears to be this very Porsche a little over a year ago. While it’s unclear what caused the accident or the front-end damage, the windshield is shattered, and the driver’s side hood, bumper, and fender are all toast.

Notably, Brownlee hasn’t personally posted about an accident associated with his car. It’s technically possible that somehow this isn’t his, or perhaps he sold it and someone else crashed it. Considering just how popular Mr. Brownlee is, it’s plausible that a superfan decided to copy his car down to the decals. Despite that, there is some good evidence that Brownlee’s car and this one are the same.
Let’s talk about the evidence supporting that idea. In a video posted to YouTube on January 11, 2024, he revealed the Porsche 911 to followers and talked everyone through the options he chose for the car. Specifically talking about the stripe decal on the hood, he says, “This two stripe up here, this is what I think really separates my black Turbo S from everyone else’s. This was a little custom thing I worked on with APC.”
Sure enough, what appears to be that exact same stripe is on the hood of the car listed at the salvage auction. Of course, that’s not the only thing that is the same, it’s just the most obvious bit that links the two cars. They both have the same paint color and interior upholstery. As pointed out by commentators on Reddit, it also appears that they have the same VIN ending, too.
What will become of this very desirable car? Only time will tell, but since the “start code” on this auction is “Starts”, there’s a decent chance that someone could salvage it and get it back on the road. Any manner of YouTubers could manage exactly that. Carscoops reached out to Mr. Brownlee for comment on this story, but didn’t hear back by the time of writing. We’ll update this story if we receive a response.
