The European Union is set to ban the sale of light vehicles that are not 100% free of CO2 emissions by 2035, meaning cars with gasoline and diesel engines – including hybrids – will no longer be available beyond that date. The ban, which applies only to the sale of new vehicles, was voted into law by the European Parliament in 2023 and includes interim targets starting in 2025. These stringent laws are part of why the 992.2 GT3 gained plenty of engine refinements, yet lost torque; the improvements were necessary to meet emissions while maintaining horsepower.
