Most of us aren’t old enough to have been there, but the 1950s was an interesting decade for the automotive industry. At the start of the 50s, cars were still being designed with tall rooflines and bodies that resembled bathtubs. However, as the decade progressed, cars became longer, lower, and faster. In fact, by the end of the decade, some cars had become so long that folks weren’t interested in buying them, and preferred a smaller choice. This new consumer sentiment paved the way for the compact car.
