National gas prices in the United States have reached $3.912 for regular grade as of March 20, 2026. This is according to the American Automobile Association (AAA), which tracks gas prices on a national and state-by-state level. Today’s average is $0.978 higher than it was one month ago, when 87-octane gasoline sold for an average of $2.934 around the country. This increase of nearly a dollar is mainly related to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, and Iran’s closure of the Straight of Hormuz, which is used to ship around 20% of the world’s global oil supply.
