As for the Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are just. He is a reliable God who is never unjust, he is fair and upright.
These words come from a song God gave Moses to teach to Israel. The song tells the story of how God chose Israel and cared for her. And how Israel, in turn, rejected God and turned to idols, and would suffer the consequences.
Is God unfair when he punishes us for our sin or disciplines us when we go astray? No. As this verse says, God is never unjust, but is always fair and upright. God’s punishment and discipline are not because he is angry or capricious. They are tools he uses to lead us to repentance and growth.
We might feel like what he does to us is more than our sin deserves. But it is not. You may feel as though you are suffering unjustly. But, while the discipline inflicted on us by other people may be unfair, God’s never is.
He knows us better than we do ourselves. He knows us well and what we do. And he knows just what is needed to move us toward his goal.
God owes us nothing. But what he offers us is beyond compare. His work is perfect. Allow him to shape you, preparing you for the glorious future he has prepared for those who will submit to him.
