- Hertz Car Sales inventory is live on Amazon Autos with financing and online checkout.
- Vehicles come with inspection, warranty, roadside assistance, and buy-back guarantee.
- The scheme will launch in Dallas, Houston, LA, and Seattle before expanding nationwide.
Buying a used Hertz rental car just got a whole lot easier – or at least, that’s the premise. The agency is now working together with Amazon Autos, enabling customers to browse, finance, and purchase thousands of used cars online like they would, for instance, a coffee maker or a pocket knife. Mind you, this is only the latest addition to an already large catalog of new cars available on the platform.
Hertz, of course, already sells its used cars on its own and recently expanded its program, allowing interested parties to rent a used car for up to three days at a special low rate. Think of it as an extended test drive of sorts. If the customer ends up buying the car, the rental charge is nixed. Hertz used cars come with a 12-month or 12,000-mile powertrain warranty and the company offers a seven-day buy-back guarantee.

Hertz is now Amazon Auto’s first fleet dealer. “Our goal is to reimagine the car-buying experience and meet customers where they are – whether online or in person – with convenience, confidence and scale,” Jeff Adams, Executive Vice President of Hertz Car Sales, said. “Amazon Autos is the ideal partner to help us deliver on this, as customers can shop our expansive inventory of high-quality used cars on the same trusted marketplace where millions shop every day.”
The program is launching in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Seattle, with plans to expand to 45 other locations across the US. Those who buy a Hertz vehicle through Amazon can finance the car there, but it’s worth noting that Prime members don’t get free delivery as neither company offers the service under this program. Instead, at least for the time being, buyers will need to pick up their new ride at a Hertz location.
Notably, this is far from the first time we’ve seen cars go up for sale on Amazon. The online retailer announced a year ago that it would work with major automakers to sell cars. At the moment, it only sells Hyundai-branded vehicles through the system, but the addition of Hertz used cars adds more value on both ends. It also launched a pre-owned selection of cars recently. This all works well together. Now we’ll just have to wait to see what the customer experience is like.
