The shifts in the geopolitical landscape, combined with a general dissent towards EVs, have seen the EV landscape change dramatically. Where a year ago, automakers were still firmly on the “EV is the future train,” they’ve now shifted policy, with many taking on huge losses as they pivot away from EVs or delay their electric strategies. Honda is one such brand that has seemingly negotiated the pivot without significant drama, but it hasn’t been immune to the effects of the change in EV climate. During a recent roundtable with American media at Honda’s Tokyo HQ, CEO Toshihiro Mibe admitted Honda’s EV plans in America had faced a significant setback, with the brand delaying its American EV strategy by as many as five years.
