Infiniti’s New Coupe Crossover Is Almost Here
Infiniti is gearing up to launch the QX65, a coupe-style crossover that takes its cues from last year’s QX65 Monograph concept. The production model is set to arrive soon, starting out with a four-cylinder engine. But behind the scenes, Infiniti is already laying the groundwork for something with more muscle.
According to a report from Automotive News, citing an unnamed source familiar with the product plan, Infiniti intends to introduce a V6-powered version in 2027. The same roadmap could eventually lead to a high-performance Red Sport variant of the crossover.
If these plans come together, the QX65 could be more than just another SUV in Infiniti’s stable. It might mark the start of Infiniti’s return to the kind of sporty, design-driven image that defined the FX era, when performance wasn’t just a footnote, but a core part of the brand’s DNA.

What’s Known About the QX65 So Far
The QX65 shares its platform with the QX60, but trades the extra row for a sleeker, coupe-inspired profile aimed squarely at buyers who want style to go with their practicality.
At launch, the QX65 gets a 2.0-liter variable-compression turbo four-cylinder with about 268 horsepower, the same engine found in several other Infiniti and Nissan models. This move is a direct result of earlier emissions strategies that pushed brands toward smaller, more efficient powertrains.
Production is set to kick off this year, with forecasts pointing to about 20,000 units in the first full cycle. Infiniti seems to be taking a measured approach, rolling out the QX65 gradually instead of flooding the market right away.
The real twist comes a bit further down the road. Infiniti is planning to roll out a V6 version around summer 2027, likely alongside the four-cylinder. Expect it to use a version of Nissan’s tried-and-tested 3.5-liter V6 – think Nissan Pathfinder, but tuned for about 300 hp.

The Return of Red Sport
A V6 under the hood could also set the stage for something Infiniti fans have been waiting for: the return of Red Sport performance models. Red Sport has been Infiniti’s go-to badge for performance, showing up on models like the Q50 and Q60 with extra power, sharper suspension, and just enough styling tweaks to stand out. Now, Infiniti looks ready to bring that formula to its SUV lineup.
The first model set to wear the revived Red Sport badge is the upcoming QX80 Red Sport. Early reports point to as much as 600 hp, making it the most powerful Infiniti to date.
If Infiniti follows through with a Red Sport QX65, it could become the smaller, sportier sibling in the performance lineup. After years of focusing on family crossovers and trimming its range, the QX65 and its future performance versions could signal a real shift – one that puts more emphasis on driving excitement across the board.
