
Scent is the sense most closely tied to memory. Supposedly this has something to do with how information travels from our nose to our brain, heading straight to the hippocampus, which manages our memory, and the amygdala, which processes emotion. We’re not neuroscientists, so we’ll just say “yeah, that sounds about right”. It does seem to explain why car people have a fondness for the smell of gasoline.
